movie: Paranormal Activity 4

This is going to be a quickie (oh my!) because 1. I have stuff to do and 2. I don’t have all that much to say about it.

Description from IMDB: “It has been five years since the disappearance of Katie and Hunter, and a suburban family witness strange events in their neighborhood when a woman and a mysterious child move in.”

There are aspects of the Paranormal Activity movies that I like and others that I do not like. The scary parts can be very scary, in my opinion. They have a knack for building tension and subsequently shattering it.

Unfortunately, most of the movie (this one and the others) is boring. You’re sitting there, watching these people have conversations, some of them about the demon, others not. The residents of whatever house is being haunted are cooking or cleaning or playing video games. I’m not into those parts.

I’m also irritated by the tease of a story line they have going on in this series. Most of the happenings in the movie don’t advance the story (demon, Hunter, Katie) in any significant way. They lean too heavily on shock value as entertainment.

Paranormal Activity gets a C-.
