Helllllooo! We had quite the busy weekend. I’ll have pictures from the canal in Indianapolis tomorrow, but for now, it’s movie time.
Description from IMDB: “Whilst attending a party, three high school friends gain superpowers after making an incredible discovery underground. Soon, though, they find their lives spinning out of control and their bond tested as they embrace their darker sides.”
Chronicle is one of those movies, like Paranormal Activity, in which we view much of the story through a camera belonging to one of the main characters. It doesn’t bounce around excessively, so I didn’t think it was too annoying.
Although the movie is about teenagers, it didn’t have the feel of a cliché teenager movie. The story is a balance of personal issues experienced by the primary protagonist, Andrew, his relationship with his cousin and his friends, his dying mother and his abusive father and these extraordinary things that are happening to him. I realize that probably makes it sound depressing but there are also moments of joy and humor. In that respect, Chronicle had more depth than I thought it would.
The visual effects in this movie are really well done without being cheesy fake cgi. The only complaint I have is that they don’t really answer all the questions. The story would have been better with a little more explanation.
Chronicle gets a B+.
