Hey there! We watched RIPD this weekend. I’ve been excited about seeing this movie since it was in the movie theater. It bombed, which surprised me.
Description from IMDB: “A recently slain cop joins a team of undead police officers working for the Rest in Peace Department and tries to find the man who murdered him.”
The movie has a very Men in Black vibe, but there are differences. RIPD seems a tad grittier. The level of action is about the same. The characters are more developed in RIPD, I thought. They seemed to have more depth to them, even though Jeff Bridges is playing one of two characters he does. That man has two speeds when it comes to acting: The Dude and Cowboy. The latter is what he was in this movie, but still pretty funny.
The plot was interesting. I don’t want to get too spoiler-y, but it involves a kind of mythological/artifact thing, which isn’t actually real in real life (I checked), but it adds some spice to the story. Like, someone actually put some thought into the story instead of just slapping together pretty, pretty Ryan Reynolds and a crapload of cgi.
I liked this movie a lot. I’m sorry that it bombed. I think a sequel could’ve been cool.
RIPD gets a B+.
