I am fully aware that these are not toys, but they are AMONG toys and part of the collection.
This is a set of promotional pins for the DVD/VHS release of Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. They were given to Blockbuster employees in either 2003 or 2004 and then given to me by one of my friends. I don’t remember if he was the one who worked there or if he knew someone who worked there and then he just passed them on to me.
I like how easily they arrange in this neat, little grid. It appeals to some OCD portion of my brain.
These were actually missing for years. I just found them a few weeks ago in some random box. They don’t have an official spot yet. I thought about mounting them in a frame. For now, they just sit in their neat grid on the counter.
Despite the fact that the cold is making me want to hide in bed until spring, the writing is going pretty well. There are times that I feel like I’m just spinning my wheels, but I am making progress. I’m working more consistently than usual, which is good.
The current project is a rough draft for the sequel to the middle-grade book that’s coming out near the end of February. The first book in the series is currently in the hands of final proofreaders. I have vowed to touch it no further, except for book formatting, etc.
I’m actually launching 2 series next year: one for kids and one for adults. Did I mention that before? I can’t remember. The series for adults is going to have Gaiman-level weirdness and Evanovich-level attitude, both things that I love, so I’m really excited about it.
I also found a book that I forgot I wrote last spring. That’s normal, right? To forget you wrote a book? That one is a kids’ book but not part of the series. I think it needs some intensive rewriting, so I might put that release off until I get both the series rocking and rolling.
And now, here is a selfie I took with Bleu. He tried to eat a cookie through a ziploc bag the other day. That incident is not pictured.
Oh my gosh. It is like WAY too cold outside. 10 degrees as I type this. It was 5 this morning when I got up. Earlier, I was thinking about how frivolous things like towel heaters and heated floors seem in the summer. In this weather, they look more like genius!
Anyway, I’m going to do a series of posts with the toy collection. My first idea was to just slap a bunch of pictures up all at once but that didn’t feel like enough. It felt cheap, somehow, not that my stuff is exceptionally fancy. It’s not fancy, but it does mean something to me, because I am a dork.
First up is a set of Burger King toys from when the Simpsons Movie came out in 2007. Wait, that was almost 10 years ago! Omg, I can’t believe it has been that long. How crazy is that?
Yes, I remove most of my collectibles from packages because I don’t buy stuff for potential future nerds; I buy stuff for present nerd, which is me.
This is the first hardcore collection I assembled as an adult. I went to at least 3 Burger Kings on several occasions to get this collection together. My favorite helpful Burger King associates were the ones who let me dig through the boxes. That’s how I got the “rare” golden Homer in the back.
The Duff can is just an energy drink I bought within the last year or so from Five Below.
That’s it for this one. Smell ya later!
Hi! I thought I’d pop on to share a thing. I was in the process of inputting book information somewhere and I saw that Love & the Dark is currently in the top 100 in one of its categories. Hooray!
Here’s the link if you haven’t read it yet.
I’m thinking about putting a price on it if Amazon will let me do so after the fact. Part of me regrets offering it for free in the first place. I did it to attract new readers, but I don’t think a free book offers the same level of exposure it used to. Now it just kind of feels like a waste when I could be advertising it and possibly making some money.
We’ll see. In the meantime, you might want to snatch it up if you haven’t done so already.
Really just the one present, but I am really excited. I collect TV and movie…um, toys? knick knacks? Gimcrack? Gewgaws?
Yeah. I actually wanted to post some pictures, but the shelves were dusty, and I was too lazy to dust them. I also didn’t want the whole wide internet to see my dust.
Anyway, I got a new gewgaw. It’s Doctor Finklestein from Nightmare Before Christmas! Here’s a picture.
The arm in his hand is actually more of a blue color, probably because it’s Sally’s. He also plays the audio of a snippet of a scene from the movie with surprisingly good quality sound.
He won’t be hanging on the tree. He’s on the shelf with the other figurines and my VHS copy of the movie. I didn’t have this guy before. I have a few Jacks, a Sally, Lock, Shock, and Barrel, Oogie Bookie, a stuffed Zero, and a figurine Zero. I think that’s it.
Someday when I dust, I’ll post more of the collection. I own way more toys than any 39-year-old should.
