How to Write Story Openings

The other day, I found this great video on writing book/story openings. I don’t always do this well. A long time ago, I read some writing advice that stated the inciting incident should happen as close to the beginning of the book as possible, otherwise you run the risk of boring the reader.

Turns out, that wasn’t great advice. This…is much better. The video is long but totally worth it if you’re interested in such things.

Oh, and the author is Darynda Jones. She writes the Charley Davidson series. I love her writing. It’s energetic and funny, very entertaining.
